What is a legacy gift?

A legacy gift is a way to include a cause you care about in your future plans. One option is a charitable bequest—a gift to an organization through your will.

Your attorney or financial advisor can help you explore how charitable giving might fit alongside your plans for family, loved ones, and other priorities.

Ways to include a gift in your will

Your wishes and circumstances will guide your plans. Options to discuss with your attorney include:

A gift of a chosen amount

You may wish to designate a dollar amount or a percentage of your estate to support Your Safe Haven.

A gift from what remains

A residuary bequest directs a share of what remains in your estate after other gifts and obligations have been addressed.

A gift dependent on circumstances

A contingent bequest takes effect under circumstances specified in your will, such as when a named beneficiary does not survive you.

Ask your attorney to prepare language that accurately reflects your wishes and identifies the organization receiving your gift.

Where do I begin?
