Volunteers are an important part of Your Safe Haven. By sharing your time and talents, you can help support people in Bedford County whose lives have been affected by crime.
Along the way, you’ll learn about our services, build new skills, and meet people who share your commitment to helping others.
Who can volunteer?
To become a Your Safe Haven volunteer, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Pass a child abuse history check.
- Have your FBI clearances.
- Complete the initial screening process.
Training & time commitment
Training helps you prepare to support people affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Here’s what to expect:
Before you begin
Successfully complete the required 65-hour domestic violence and sexual assault training.
Keep learning
Attend at least 10 hours of ongoing training or in-service education each year.
Make a commitment
After training, volunteers are asked to commit to one year of service, providing at least four hours each month.
Volunteer hours should be completed during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.
What you bring
Compassion, reliability, and a willingness to listen are important parts of volunteering with Your Safe Haven. We ask volunteers to:
- Be a dedicated member of the team.
- Use the agency’s resources effectively.
- Follow agency policies and procedures.
- Listen attentively and offer support.
- Treat others without judgment.
- Show empathy and respect.
All volunteers are expected to uphold Your Safe Haven’s mission, vision, and agency policies.
